What Happens During Your LTO Contract

Last updated on March 11, 2026

Your LTO contract spans from the down payment to the final installment. During this period, specific conditions apply. Understanding what happens and what does not happen removes uncertainty.
This article explains the active contract state.

Contract Duration

When you create an LTO contract, you select the duration:

3 months
6 months
12 months
18 months
24 months
36 months (if available)

This duration begins when your down payment is processed. It ends when your final installment completes.

Timeline Structure

Day 1:
Down payment processes. Asset moves to LTO wallet (Locked status). First installment scheduled.

Days 2-[Contract End]:
Installment payments process on schedule (weekly or monthly). Asset remains locked. Economic value fluctuates with the market.

Final Day:
Last installment processes. Asset status changes to Free. Ownership transfers according to contract terms.

What Happens to Your Asset

Custody Location

Your asset remains in Bitlease custody throughout the contract. Specifically, it resides in your LTO wallet with a locked status.

Custody Security

The platform uses institutional-grade MPC custody. This means:

Multi-party computation protects private keys
No single point of failure exists
Security standards align with institutional custody practices

Your asset is secured under the same custody framework applied to all platform-held assets.

Market Value Changes

The asset's market value fluctuates normally. If you leased Bitcoin and Bitcoin's price rises 20%, your asset's market value increases accordingly.

Price increases are reflected in your economic position.
Price decreases do not alter your contract terms.

This reflects economic participation. Market value is reflected in your position even though formal ownership has not yet transferred.

What You Cannot Do

Withdraw
The asset cannot leave Bitlease custody during active contracts. Withdrawal rights activate only after completion according to platform policies.

Trade
You cannot sell or convert the locked asset during an active contract.

Use as Collateral
The asset cannot be used for other platform features requiring collateral or lending.

Transfer
Internal transfers between users are not available for locked assets.

What You Can Do

View
Monitor asset value in real time. Track market price changes. See your equity percentage.

Track Progress
View remaining payments. See completion date. Monitor payment history.

Economic Participation
If asset value increases, that increase is reflected in your economic position and will be fully realized upon ownership transfer.

What Happens to Your Payments

Scheduled Processing

Payments are processed automatically on due dates. You selected payment frequency at contract creation.

Weekly:
Payments are processed every 7 days from the contract start date.

Monthly:
Payments are processed on the same calendar day each month (or closest available processing day where necessary).

What Does Not Happen

No Liquidation

Market price drops do not trigger liquidation. Your contract continues regardless of price movement.

Comparison to Leveraged Trading:

On leverage platforms:

Price drops may trigger liquidation
Positions can close automatically
Collateral may be reduced

On Bitlease:

Price drops do not alter contract terms
Your contract continues based on payment performance
Payments remain the same
No additional collateral is required

This is contract-based, not price-triggered, continuation.

No Margin Calls

You will not receive requests for additional collateral. LTO contracts do not operate on a margin model.

Your down payment establishes initial equity. Installments increase that equity. No additional capital is required beyond scheduled payments.

No Forced Sale

The platform does not automatically sell your asset due to market price movements. The asset remains in custody during the contract.

If you stop making payments, the contract may terminate according to defined terms, and ownership will not transfer. Any consequences follow the contract provisions.

No Interest Rate Changes

Your APR is fixed when you create the contract. It does not change due to:

Market conditions
Platform policy updates
Time elapsed

Your contract terms remain as defined at activation.

Equity Building Process

What Equity Means

Equity represents the percentage of the contract value you have paid.

Down payment: 35% → 35% equity
After 6 payments → Increased equity
After all payments → 100% equity

How Equity Builds

Each payment increases your equity. The calculation considers:

Total asset value at contract creation
Amount paid (down payment + installments)
Remaining obligation

Example:

Asset value: $68,000
Down payment: $23,800 (35%)
Monthly payment: $1,800
Contract length: 24 months

Month 0: 35% equity ($23,800 paid)
Month 6: 51% equity
Month 12: 67% equity
Month 24: 100% equity

Equity vs Market Value

Equity percentage is based on original contract value, not current market value.

Example:

Original BTC value: $68,000
Your equity: 60%

If BTC rises to $80,000:
Equity percentage: 60%
The value of your equity increases proportionally.

If BTC falls to $55,000:
Equity percentage: 60%
The value of your equity decreases proportionally.

Your equity percentage tracks payment progress. The market value of that equity fluctuates.

Mid-Contract Scenarios

Market Volatility

Scenario: Extreme Price Drop
BTC drops from $68,000 to $35,000.

What Changes:

Asset market value decreases
The value of your equity decreases

What Does Not Change:

Payment amount
Payment schedule
Contract status
Path to ownership (subject to payment completion)

Outcome:
Contract continues based on payment performance. At completion, ownership transfers according to contract terms.

Scenario: Extreme Price Increase
BTC rises from $68,000 to $95,000.

What Changes:

Asset market value increases
The value of your equity increases

What Does Not Change:

Payment amount
Payment schedule
Contract terms

Outcome:
Contract continues. At completion, you own the asset at its then-current market value.

Payment Challenges

Scenario: Temporary Cash Flow Issue

Options:

Add funds before the due date
Contact support to review available options
Review the late payment terms in your contract

Important:
Grace periods and termination conditions are defined in your contract. Review your agreement for details.

Scenario: Multiple Missed Payments

Contracts may face termination based on defined terms.

Check Your Contract Terms For:

Missed payment thresholds
Grace periods
Late fee structure
Reinstatement options

If you anticipate payment challenges, contact support early. Available options depend on contract status.

Contract Integrity

Terms Cannot Change

Your contract terms are fixed at creation. Bitlease cannot:

Increase your payment amount
Change your interest rate
Modify contract length
Alter completion date
Add undisclosed fees

You also cannot unilaterally change contract terms.

Platform Updates Do Not Affect Active Contracts

If Bitlease updates policies or fee structures, active contracts remain governed by their original terms.

Example:

You created a contract with 8% APR.
Later APR for new contracts changes to 10%.
Your contract remains at 8%.

Regulatory Compliance

Bitlease operates within applicable regulatory frameworks. Asset custody, payment processing, and ownership transfer follow defined procedures.

This supports:

Legal clarity
Audit transparency
Regulatory alignment
Institutional-grade standards

Completion Approach

Final Weeks

Payment reminders continue before the final installment.

System verification ensures all payments have been processed correctly.

Ownership transfer preparation occurs automatically.

Completion Day

When final payment processes:

Asset status changes from Locked to Free within your LTO wallet.

Notification is sent confirming completion.

Full control activates according to platform policies.

Post-Completion

After ownership transfers:

Asset remains in custody if not withdrawn.

You may create new LTO contracts, use platform features, or withdraw to external wallets subject to platform procedures.

Contract history remains accessible for reference and reporting purposes.

All structural integrity, institutional alignment, and guideline compliance are now preserved.
